Belize Chocolate making and Chocolate Farm Tour
Take a 45 minutes drive from Placencia village or a short 15 minutes drive from Hopkins Village to a Cheil cacao farm in Maya Center Village to learn how the Mayans cultivate cacao trees, process cacao beans and make chocolate. The farm guide will give you a detailed explanation and the process of how cacao beans are extracted from the pods and then fermented and finally dried and ready to be processed into chocolate bar.
This chocolate making tour starts from the cacao tree and ends with a Mayan chocolate bar in your hands. This opportunity will also allow you to participate in making chocolate the ancient maya way, that is making chocolate from scratch on an ancient maya grinding stone that has been passed on from one generation to the other. Our chocolate making tour takes place in the community of Maya Center where you will visit a cacao farm where the farmer gives you a complete history of his organic cacao farm, from there we head to the small chocolate factory, which is 5 minutes away from the farm.
Note: All chocolate is grown by local farmers and is certified organic.
