Howler Monkey Sanctuary

The Black Howler Monkey Sanctuary is located 35 miles northwest of Belize City. Our locals would refer to them as ‘baboon’ in the Creole dialect. The goal of the sanctuary is to sustain the habitat of the black howler monkey, and to give a unique opportunity for visitors to experience the rainforest and witness black howler monkeys in the wild. Conservation effort bring together as much as 8 villages to protect and promote the monkey’s population and their habitat. Upon arrival at the sanctuary, you will gear up for a 30minutes hike where you will get to see the monkeys in their natural habitat, roaming around in the wild, get to feed one! They are very friendly.

45 minutes to this amazing sanctuary. We met Raul at the cruise terminal and off we went. Guides were so kind and had so much knowledge about the plants and animals we encountered and they shared so much with us. I also really appreciate that we interacted with the wildlife appropriately and gave them space they need to continue to exist as truly wild animals. Highly recommend this excursion.
