Belize Spice Farm & Nim Li Punit

Nim li Punit is a very small archeological site located on the foothills of the Mayan mountain in southern Belize. Nim li Punit is famously known for holding the second longest Stella recorded in the Mundo Maya world measuring 31.2 ft. long. Visit Belize’s very own spice farm and learn more about the different spices that are cultivated on the property.

After meeting us in Placencia, we board an air-conditioned passengers van for a scenic 90 miniutes ride to the archeological site of Nim Li Punit, “Large Hat or Big Hat” in the Mayan Kekchi language. The site was named after a depiction on a Maya stela of one of its rulers wearing a very large headdress. This unique Mayan ceremonial site has a small museum and a welcome center where you can see some of the large stelas with well-preserved Maya drawings and writing, as well as pieces of jades, pottery and other artifacts. It also has one of the well-preserved maya ball-court in the center of the complex and an observatory in one of the plazas. The entire site is shaded by a canopy of large trees, providing a comfortable environment for viewing this very interesting Mayan site.

Head over to the Belize Spice Farm and Botanical Gardens and see how vanilla, nutmeg, maze cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper are cultivated in Belize. As you travel through the farm via tram, you’ll see how these unique spices are dried and processed for packaging. Afterward, relax in the comfortable guest center where you will have the opportunity to purchase some of the spices that are grown here. This farm is now supplying 90% of Black pepper throughout Belize.

NOTE! Participants must weigh a maximum of 275 lbs. There are approximately 100 steps to negotiate and must be able to walk up and down stone stairs unassisted and step in and out of farm tram. The minimum allowable age to participate in this tour is 5 years old. Credit cards and cash can be used to purchase handicrafts and other spice products.
