Xunantunich Mayan Ruins and Jaguar Paw Cave Tubing

This tour begins with a 3 hours drive from Placencia or 2 hours from Hopkins on the famous “Hummingbird Highway,” one of the most scenic drive in central america, a bit of a drive but a great way to see the country side.

Arriving at the village of Succotz, we’ll cross the Mopan River by means of a hand-cranked ferry. From here we take a short drive to the site. Upon arrival a knowledgeable site guide will walk you through the site while giving you a thorough history about the political, social and trading of the ancient Maya people. The highlight of the trip is climbing the 140 feet high “El Castillo” building to experience a 360 degree view over the rainforest treetops of Western Belize and Guatemala.

NOTE: There are approximately 100 steps to negotiate and must be able to walk up and down stone stairs unassisted hence participants must be physically active. The minimum allowable age to participate in this tour is 5 years old.

Cave Tubing Adventure is Next…
Cave tubing is a must if you find yourself in Belize. Enjoyed by all ages(5-70years) our tour is family and kid friendly. A Belizean activity that involve a 30 minutes hike through the rainforest to get to the cave entrance however this is the only hike you do as you basically float back to starting point. Participants will enjoy an easy relaxing float of approximately 1.5-2 hours through underground tunnels on inflatable inner tubes. This tour includes an experienced and professional guide, Head lamps, life vests, and inner tubes with head rest.

Boarding the inner tubes, guests will be guided by the tranquil currents into the cave on the caves branch river. Once inside, the light from the head lamps will reveal a lost world of sparkling stalactites and stalagmites as well as other cave formations as you float through ‘Xibalba’ mayan word for underworld or ‘Hell’. An excellent day trip from Hopkins

We had an absolutely epic day visiting the sacred ruins of Xunantunich in the morning, followed by a delicious lunch and cave tubing in the afternoon. Jose was our guide and he was warm and friendly, professional and so knowledgeable. We were so lucky to have him all to ourselves for the entire day. The ruins are spectacular and Jose taught us so much about the Mayan culture and history. Cave tubing was the icing on the cake. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about tubing through caves, but it turns out I loved it! The caves are beautiful and the current is slow so you wind through the system for about an hour looking at the sights with your provided headlamps. When you exit the cave you end with some really peaceful and scenic river tubing. It is a long day but so worth it. Highly recommend! It was an awesome day!

Worth every penny!

This was a fantastic day with Real Deal Belize Tours. It is a long drive but Raul was a fantastic guide and was extremely knowledgeable and made the drive fun and educational. The van was spacious, comfortable and new, and the trip was wonderful. The ruins are mind-blowing and the cave tubing is a once-in a lifetime experience. Highly recommend it!

Wonderful Tour!

An absolute blast with this tour!! Beyond 5 stars! 10 of us were scheduled as a group. Raul and Macario were truly fabulous guides. They shared the entire history of Belize on the van ride and made the long trek to the ruins super fun. We had the jaguar paw caves scheduled and it was flooded so they quickly improvised and got us on another cave tour. We had the entire float through the caves all by ourselves, which was amazing and so full of history and knowledge of the Mayan Culture. Everything throughout the day felt exclusive and just perfect for our group. Out of all the tours we’ve done as a group this has by far been the best experience we’ve had. Thank for making our day so special.
