Tiger Fern Waterfall Hike

Located in the dense jungle of Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserve, Tiger Fern trail is one of the best thing to do around Hopkins, Belize and a perfect day tour from Placencia.
This tour start with a 30 minutes drive from Hopkins or an hour drive from Placencia Village. The trail to tiger fern has a little bit of everything from lush tropical rainforest, sweeping mountain views to breathtaking double waterfalls with natural swimming pools. This trail is not heavily trafficked so at times you have an excellent shot at having it all to yourself. Tiger fern trail is a rigorous hike, snaking through dense jungle before steeply ascending (and then descending) a mountain with panoramic summit views. This is not a walk in the park, but for all the sweat and effort you put in you are rewarded when the trail ends with not one but two pristine waterfalls with natural swimming poles.

- This hike is strenuous but benches for resting are situated along the way. We have had little hikers of age 5 who handled it, though there are spots where they need assistance especially on the way back down.

Highly recommend the tiger fern trail with this group. Bring mosquito repellent and spend some time cooling off at the upper waterfall, you wont regret it!
Tiger Fern Trail
We only hiked the tiger fern DOUBLE waterfall trail and it was awesome. About 7 km in length, it takes you up to a great lookout before heading back down into the jungle to arrive at two waterfalls. The upper waterfall was really amazing and we basically had the entire place to ourselves to swim in. Very beautiful, saw bats, lizards, lead cuter ants, etc but no jaguars.
Not an easy hike but worth it
The hike up to Tiger fern waterfalls is not an easy hike but once you get up there to the top it is a spectacular view. Make sure and wear a bathsuit/swim trunks under your hiking clothes.
Best Excursion from Placencia
My wife, 20 year-old son and I were in Belize for a week and took three excursions. This was definitely the family favorite! It was not at all what we were expecting. A good pair of hiking boots is a must because the trail gets difficult near the top. You have to hold onto a rope on parts of it and it gets really steep. The last 20 minutes was intense going downhill but at the end of the trail we were surprised with two waterfalls below where we all went for a swim. Raul took good care of us and was really knowledgeable about the Jaguar Reserve. My wife even had the guts to eat termites! This trip was a total blast and definitely the best time we had in Belize!
